The Delta DolceVita Oversize (Vermeil Trim)

The Delta DolceVita Oversize is an iconic Italian writing instrument, instantly recognizable by its striking contrast of terracotta orange and deep black resin. Hand-turned from solid bars of acrylic in Italy, the Oversize (OS) model is a massive, unapologetically thick pen designed to be a centerpiece. While standard versions feature sterling silver trim, the Vermeil version upgrades the appointments to heavy gold plating over solid sterling silver, emphasizing its luxurious, high-jewelry aesthetic.

Hand-Turned Italian Craftsmanship

The DolceVita collection is a tribute to the “sweet life” of Italy, combining bold Mediterranean colors with traditional casting methods.

* The Terracotta Resin: The barrel is turned from a solid rod of pearlescent orange resin, featuring unique, translucent swirls that catch the light. No two barrels have the exact same pattern of orange and gold veins.

* The Vermeil Accent Band: The hallmark of Delta’s premium line is the wide central cap band. It is cast using the ancient “lost-wax” technique, featuring a high-relief relief pattern inspired by a motif found in the ruins of Pompeii. On this version, the band is solid 925 sterling silver plated with 24k gold (Vermeil), bearing official Italian assay hallmarks.

* Girth and Ergonomics: The Oversize is exceptionally wide, with a barrel diameter of roughly 16 mm. Despite its girth, it is designed to be written with unposted, balancing comfortably due to the lightweight nature of the high-grade resin.

The Oversized Writing Experience

* The Nib: It is equipped with a massive, oversized 14k solid gold nib, matching the gold trim. These nibs are celebrated for their wet, consistent, and smooth ink flow.

* Filling System: The DolceVita Oversize is a cartridge/converter filler. However, its generous internal capacity means it is also highly favored by collectors to be used as a high-volume eye-dropper pen when properly sealed with silicone grease.

Our pen is in excellent + condition having been barely used during its lifetime. It’s an early model from the original Delta company before it was closed and recently revamped and unusual in that it has a 14K nib instead of a more common 18K. I haven’t been able to identify a change in feel, but it does have a lovely fat Broad nib. It is a monster pen and fatter than a 149, so good for big hands who enjoy a bit of a flashy life.
