Experience the unparalleled elegance of the Waterman's Patrician, the flagship model from L.E. Waterman Company, produced between 1929 and 1936. Hailed as "crafted like a fine car – colored like a fine jewel," this pen was a beacon of luxury during the Great Depression, famously launched with a million-dollar ad campaign. It was considered the "Rolls-Royce of pens" of its era, dubbed "The World's Finest Pen for Men."
This particular model is a later production 1934 Turquoise Patrician, featuring the innovative Tip-Filling feed that allowed the nib to draw ink into the lever-filled sac with just a partial dip. The celluloid nitrate body is in exceptionally mint condition, showcasing a deep lapis coloration with no signs of color loss whatsoever. The cap is adorned with incredibly large bursts of shimmering gold celluloid, adding to its exquisite appeal.
**Nib & Writing Experience:**
At its heart is a grail-level #8 14k Patrician nib, offering a fine (F) grind with remarkable hairline flex and incredible softness. This nib is supremely rare for its ability to easily reach a 6B line width, a characteristic not typically found in these often manifold nibs. With a measured flexibility of 250g, it provides an impressive line variation from 0.30mm to 2.15mm (7.17x). The pen has been meticulously tested on Rhodia 80 gsm paper, inked with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black, ensuring a superb writing performance.
**Restoration & Condition:**
This vintage masterpiece has undergone a meticulous restoration by Heron's Mooncake, achieving a Restoration Grade of B+. The imprints are crisp and mint, and the black ebonite elements have been rejuvenated and hand-polished to restore their original softness. The celluloid shows no signs of crystallization or degradation. The nib has been heat-set and tuned for optimal smoothness. To ensure its longevity, the pen has been coated with carnauba wax for protection against moisture, UV, and future celluloid crystallization. It is fitted with inert silicone ink sacs to prevent off-gassing, which would otherwise darken the mint celluloid nitrate barrels.
