The Conway Stewart No. 85 is a classic British fountain pen from the 1950s, combining traditional lever-filling construction with one of the colourful marbled finishes for which vintage Conway Stewart pens are particularly well known.

Introduced during the latter half of the 1950s, the No. 85 was part of Conway Stewart's extensive range of colourful British-made fountain pens. This example is finished in a striking Blue Marble, with rich shades of blue and pearlescent white intersected by fine golden-brown veining.

The finish is complemented by gold-plated trim, including the distinctive Conway Stewart clip and traditional side lever. The barrel retains its original Conway Stewart No. 85 / Made in England imprint.

The pen is fitted with a 14K Gold Fine nib, offering the character and writing feel associated with vintage British gold nibs.

It uses a traditional lever-filling system, and a new ink sac has been fitted as part of the restoration.

This example is in very good restored vintage condition.

The pen has been carefully inspected, cleaned and tested. As part of the restoration, the original ink sac has been replaced with a new ink sac, returning the lever-filling system to reliable working condition. The filling mechanism operates correctly, and the pen is ready for use.

The Blue Marble material retains excellent colour and depth, while the original barrel imprint remains visible. The gold-plated furniture presents well, with some light age-related wear.

There are light surface marks and signs of previous use consistent with its age. Any significant imperfections are shown in the photographs.

Every vintage pen sold by Pentsugi is individually inspected and tested before listing. Where restoration has been necessary, the aim is to preserve as much of the pen's original character as possible while returning it to reliable writing condition.

For this example, a new ink sac has been fitted and the lever-filling system fully tested, allowing the pen to be enjoyed as a functional writing instrument rather than simply as a collectable.

The No. 85 is particularly attractive in this Blue Marble finish, where the pattern varies naturally across the cap and barrel, making every example slightly different. Combined with its 14K gold nib, traditional lever-filling mechanism and unmistakably British styling, it is a wonderful example of mid-century Conway Stewart design.
