The Swan Minor SM1/60 is an iconic interwar British fountain pen manufactured by Mabie, Todd & Co. in London during the 1920s. Decoded using Mabie Todd’s historical nomenclature, the model designation indicates a Swan Medium-sized pen equipped with a No. 1 nib, featuring a traditional lever filler housed in chased black celluloid (coded as the /60 finish).
Crafted from celluloid, the cap and barrel feature fine engine-turned chasing patterns alongside crisp barrel imprints. The top of the cap is crowned with the gold-filled inset Swan logo, complemented by a accommodation or factory-fitted clip and a guilloche mock-cap band. It is fitted with an original 14K solid gold Mabie Todd Swan No. 1 nib, highly prized for its exceptional flexibility, responsiveness, and fine-to-broad line variation under gentle pressure.
Our pen here is in fabulous vintage condition with hardly any wear and very crisp engraving and imprints. It is a relatively slim pen, but incredibly handsome and stealthy with the signature black ebonite clip. This example has an accommodation clip attached, but this can be removed if desired. The number 1 14K fine nib is very flexible and springy and would make a superb controlled Spencerian writer.
