Discover a true icon of the Great Depression era with this Waterman's Patrician fountain pen, featuring a stunning Moss Agate Celluloid body with Gold Plated Trim (GPT). Launched as the flagship model of L.E. Waterman Company from 1929 to 1936, the Patrician was celebrated as "The World's Finest Pen for Men," renowned for being "crafted like a fine car—colored like a fine jewel." While originally released in five vibrant colors, the Moss Agate variation, introduced in 1932, offered a more subtle yet equally alluring aesthetic. Its dark marbled green celluloid nitrate body is beautifully accented with intricate gold celluloid veins and bursts, reflecting the elegance of a bygone era.
This particular Patrician is fitted with a highly sought-after, 'grail level' #8 14k Patrician Nib. It boasts exceptional hairline flex and incredible softness, a rare characteristic for these nibs which are typically manifold, allowing it to easily achieve a remarkable 6B line width. The nib features an EF, Cursive Italic grind, offering significant line variation from 0.25mm to 2.02mm (an impressive 8.08x variation). The pen has been meticulously restored by Heron's Mooncake, achieving an A- Restoration Grade.
Condition and Restoration:
The pen's imprints are crisp and mint, showcasing its well-preserved original state. The black ebonite components have been rejuvenated and hand-polished, restoring their original softness. The celluloid body exhibits no signs of crystallization or degradation. The nib has been heat-set and tuned for optimal smoothness. To ensure longevity, the pen has been coated with carnauba wax to protect against moisture, UV light, and further celluloid crystallization. It is fitted with inert silicone ink sacs, preventing off-gassing that could otherwise darken the mint celluloid nitrate barrels. This pen has been tested on Rhodia 80 gsm paper, inked with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.
