Vintage Parker 61 Burgundy Red Fountain Pen
From its foundation, Parker has always been strongly committed to innovating and improving the writing instruments they brought to the market.
The Parker 61 series, introduced in 1956, presented one of the most spectacular innovations seen up to that point.
Although aesthetically very similar to the Parker 51 family, the 61 introduced an entirely novel filling system, a self-filling system, which was safer and easier to use than any of the systems available at the time.
Parker made use of a specially designed set of fibers hidden inside a Teflon-coated tube attached to the front end of the pens. Users simply had to let the metallic tube rest in a bottle of ink for a minute, and capillary action by the fibers automatically filled the pen. Wipe the Teflon-coated tube from any remaining traces of ink and you are good to go.
However, in 1969 the legendary self-filling system was discontinued in favor of the cartridge/converter filling system. The early production of Parker 61 were the last Parker models that could not take converters.
We estimate the production of this Parker 61 Burgundy Red fountain pen in the 1970s, as it has a cartridge/converter filling system. The barrel of the pen is made of burgundy red resin, while its cap is made of gold-plated metal. It features a 14kt gold nib, which offers a smoother and more enjoyable writing experience.
This fountain pen listed here is preowned and used, but in very good condition. It only shows minor signs of wear on its surfaces - consistent with normal use. It delivers a medium line, and will come in a modern Parker giftbox, as the period correct box is missing.
