Up for sale is a breathtaking piece of British writing history: an Onoto No. 6234 manufactured by Thomas De La Rue & Co. in London, dating from the late 1930s to the 1940s. This model is highly sought after for its spectacular, deep marbled celluloid with rich tones of amethyst, pink, and pearlescent grey, accented by jet-black section and end caps.
Condition & Restoration:
Cosmetic: Excellent vintage condition. The celluloid is glossy and vibrant, showing off incredible depth under the light. There are no cracks, no deep scratches, and no personal engravings. The gold-plated trim (the iconic chevron-pattern clip featuring the "DLR" logo and the cap band) is crisp and retains an excellent shine.
Imprints: The barrel imprint is remarkably deep and fully legible: "ONOTO THE PEN - DE LA RUE & CO LTD LONDON"
Mechanical: Fully restored and functional. The iconic Onoto plunger-filling system has been completely overhauled with high-quality, modern seals. It operates smoothly, draws a massive amount of ink, and the vacuum shut-off valve is completely airtight—making it fully safe to carry without risk of leaking.
