Year / Era: c. 1930s

Nib: 14K Gold, Semi-Flex, Fine to Medium
Filling System: Button Filler
Material / Finish: Red Marbled Celluloid with Gold-Plated Trim
Condition: Very Good / Restored
The Parker Duette is a charming vintage fountain pen from the 1930s, combining classic Parker styling with colourful marbled celluloid and a traditional button-filling mechanism.
Produced during the Depression era, the Duette occupied a more affordable position within Parker's range while retaining much of the character associated with the company's pens of the period. Today, surviving examples are particularly appealing for their distinctly vintage proportions, colourful celluloid and traditional construction.
This example features a beautiful red marbled celluloid body and cap, with warm shades of red and orange broken by contrasting cream-coloured veining. The pattern runs naturally throughout the material, giving the cap and barrel their own individual character.
The cap is fitted with gold-plated trim and a clip marked PARKER, while the barrel retains its original Parker Duette imprint.
One of the highlights of this particular pen is its 14K Gold semi-flex nib. With normal writing pressure, the nib produces approximately a Fine to Medium line, while its semi-flex character allows additional line variation with controlled pressure. This gives the pen a more expressive writing experience than a conventional firm nib without requiring the pressure associated with a full-flex nib.
The pen uses Parker's traditional button-filling system. Removing the blind cap at the end of the barrel reveals the metal filling button used to operate the internal pressure bar and ink sac.
This example is in very good restored vintage condition.
The pen has been carefully disassembled, cleaned, inspected and tested. The button-filling mechanism is functioning correctly and the pen is ready for use.
The 14K Gold semi-flex nib has been inspected and tested and writes approximately Fine to Medium under normal writing pressure, with additional line variation available through its natural flexibility.
The red marbled celluloid retains excellent colour and character, with attractive cream veining throughout the cap and barrel. The original barrel imprint remains visible.
The gold-plated furniture presents well for its age, with some age-related wear. There are also light surface marks, scratches and signs of previous use consistent with a vintage pen of this age.
Any significant imperfections are shown in the photographs.

Pen only
Every vintage pen sold by Pentsugi is individually inspected and tested before listing. Where restoration has been necessary, the aim is to preserve as much of the pen's original character as possible while returning it to reliable writing condition.
The Parker Duette is an interesting piece of Parker history. While less widely recognised than the Duofold and Vacumatic families, its colourful celluloid, traditional button-filling mechanism and compact proportions give it unmistakable early Parker character.
This particular example is made especially appealing by its semi-flexible 14K gold nib. It provides an expressive Fine-to-Medium everyday line while allowing additional variation when desired, giving the pen a writing character that is increasingly difficult to find in modern fountain pens.
As with all vintage writing instruments, minor signs of age and previous use should be expected. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
