Everything you need to know about selling on Gathermark

Our Promise to Sellers

We're committed to creating a safe and fair marketplace for our sellers. We want you to be able to sell with confidence, knowing that you're protected from fraud and unfair claims. Here's how we protect you:

  • PayPal Seller Protection: Just as we protect buyers, we also protect our sellers. PayPal's Seller Protection program helps to safeguard you against unauthorized payments and false claims of non-receipt. To ensure coverage:
    • Only ship to the address submitted to Gathermark via PayPal
    • Ship with tracking and insurance to cover damaged or lost in mail
    • Consult PayPal seller protection terms (https://www.paypal.com/us/security/seller-protection, ensure your country is selected if you are not in the US)
  • Pre-payment for offers: Our "Make an offer" system requires pre-payment, thus ensuring the purchase completes after accepting an offer.
  • Open Communication: No PMs. All communication happens in the listing timeline to prevent secret and dubious offers and efforts to circumvent safety policies. This helps to reduce the risk of fraudulent purchases and ensures that you're dealing with legitimate customers. Once an order is placed, you can have private messages on the order page.
  • Support in Case of Disputes: In the rare event of a dispute, we're here to help. If Paypal's seller guarantee lets you down, let us know. Our support team will work with you and the buyer to resolve the issue in a fair and timely manner.

What does it cost to sell on Gathermark?

It is free for sellers. Gathermark charges 0% commission and 0% transaction fee to sellers. Sellers are still responsible for PayPal's standard payment processing fees, which are handled directly by PayPal. Buyers are charged a small 5% community fee, which is described below.

How do I create a listing?

Gathermark offers two simple ways to create a listing:

  1. Structured Form: Fill out a form with fields for title, description, price, and shipping for full control over your listing.
  2. Reddit Connector: Tag u/gathermark in a comment on your Reddit sale post. A bot will automatically create a draft listing on Gathermark and send you a link to claim and publish it.

What am I allowed to sell?

See the About page of each community for their respective rules.

How do I sell multiple items at once?

A single Gathermark listing can contain multiple items, each with its own title, description, and price. On the first listing creation page, simply tap the button that says you'll list multiple items in the listing. This allows you to list a collection of related goods in one place, and a buyer can purchase any combination of those items. In addition, you'll be able to add a listing-level summary title and description.

How can I provide a shipping quote to a buyer in a location I don't already know and list the costs for?

The easiest way to do this is to add "worldwide" in the "Ships To Regions" of your shipping details, and select "Request Quote". This will enable a buyer to enter their address, and for you to either decline or reply with a quote. That quote will then be automatically available for buyers to checkout from that listing.

How do I manage offers from buyers?

When a buyer makes an offer, they must authorize the payment via PayPal upfront. This ensures they are a serious buyer. You will receive a notification to accept or reject the offer. If you accept, the payment is processed automatically, and the item is sold. This eliminates the risk of a buyer backing out after you've agreed on a price.

How and when do I get paid?

Payments are processed through a linked PayPal account. When a sale occurs, the funds are deposited into your PayPal account, but are placed on hold. The hold is released and the funds become available to you when either:

  1. You are a trusted seller (with a history of selling on Gathermark), and you either accept an order, wait 12 hours from the time order is placed, or mark an item is shipped. Trusted sellers are determined at Gathermark's discretion in order to keep the marketplace safe.
  2. The buyer confirms on Gathermark that they have received the item.
  3. The shipment's tracking information shows the package has been delivered for at least 2 days.

Please note your deposit will be the total price paid by the buyer, inclusive of the buyer fee. That buyer fee will be subtracted from your Paypal deposit as a platform fee for Gathermark. For example, if you sold a $100 item, then you'll see $105 deposited, minus a $5 platform fee, for a net of $100 (minus any fees charged by paypal).

See Paypal Payment Holds page for more detail.

Why is providing a tracking number so important?

Providing a tracking number is crucial for three reasons: it gives the buyer peace of mind, it is required for PayPal's seller protection policies, and it is the fastest way to get your funds released if the buyer doesn't manually confirm they've received the item.
