Hello,
I am offering for sale an exceptional Sailor King of Pen Naginata-Togi Ebonite "Mouko" (猛虎 - Fierce Tiger) fountain pen, released in October 2024.
Numbered #193/500 worldwide. Individually engraved serial number.
Sixth edition of the prestigious Naginata-Togi Ebonite series.
The design is inspired by the famous painting "Tiger" by Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800), a master of the Rinpa school and one of the greatest animal painters of the Edo period. The striking contrast between the deep black and the luminous yellow evokes the majestic stripes of the tiger.
The Mouko nib is a marvel crafted from solid 21-karat gold, in the KOP (King of Pen) #9 size, Sailor's largest nib, in the NMF (Medium-Fine) size.
Naginata-Togi: Special grind inspired by the samurai halberd.
Offers a spectacular variation in line width from ultra-fine to ultra-broad depending on the writing angle.
Ideal for calligraphy, expressive signatures, and creative writing.
Requires expert craftsmanship.
Genuine ebonite body.
The "Chirashi" (散らし) technique, which literally means "dispersion" or "scattering," is a sophisticated method of working with colored ebonite developed and mastered by Sailor. For the Mouko pen, three ebonite colors are meticulously selected: a yellow-brown evoking tiger fur, a deep black for the stripes, and white added to accentuate contrast and luminosity, faithful to Jakuchū's original work.
The process is complex: the different colors are layered in multiple coats, creating a three-dimensional structure within the material itself. The layers are artfully arranged to reproduce the tiger's stripe pattern, with particular attention paid to tone and contrast. Once assembled, they are smoothed and polished to create a homogeneous surface while preserving the visible depth.
The result is spectacular: each Mouko pen features a unique stripe pattern, as the Chirashi technique guarantees natural variability. No two pens are identical. The colors are not on the surface but permeate the entire thickness of the material, creating a remarkable visual and tactile richness. The effect is not flat but textured, with a sense of depth reminiscent of Ito Jakuchū's painting technique. With use and polishing over time, new nuances may even appear.
Sailor specifies that small spots may appear due to foreign matter contained in the raw materials. These are not defects but natural characteristics of the handcrafted material, attesting to the authenticity of the process.
