Kuretake Fountain Pen

The Kuretake Fountain Pen reflects the heritage of one of Japan's most respected manufacturers of traditional writing and art supplies. Founded in 1902 in Nara, Japan, Kuretake first earned its reputation through the production of high-quality sumi ink and calligraphy brushes. Over more than a century, the company has combined traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern innovation, expanding its expertise into fountain pens and brush pens that celebrate the country's rich writing culture.

Kuretake fountain pens are designed to bridge the worlds of traditional calligraphy and everyday handwriting. Many models feature elegant finishes inspired by Japanese art, lacquerware, and natural materials, while others incorporate brush-like writing characteristics that appeal to artists, calligraphers, and fountain pen enthusiasts alike. Their refined designs reflect Kuretake's philosophy of creating writing instruments that are not only practical but also expressive works of craftsmanship.

Built with careful attention to detail, Kuretake fountain pens offer a comfortable writing experience and dependable performance for everyday use. Whether fitted with a conventional metal nib or one of Kuretake's signature fountain brush tips, each writing instrument is designed to deliver smooth ink flow and precise control while showcasing the company's long-standing expertise in ink technology.

Today, Kuretake continues to honor its heritage by blending over a century of traditional Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary fountain pen design. Whether you're a collector, artist, or everyday writer, a Kuretake Fountain Pen offers a unique combination of cultural heritage, elegant design, and exceptional writing performance that reflects the enduring spirit of Japanese craftsmanship.

Kuretake Monogatari Kindai Maki-e

The Kuretake Monogatari Kindai Maki-e series beautifully combines traditional Japanese artistry with modern manufacturing techniques. The name "Monogatari", meaning story or tale, reflects the collection's concept that each pen tells its own story through designs inspired by Japanese culture, folklore, seasonal landscapes, and iconic motifs.

Rather than using traditional hand-painted Maki-e, these pens are decorated using Kindai Maki-e (Modern Maki-e), a contemporary decorative technique inspired by the elegance of classical Japanese art, particularly Ukiyo-e and the Rimpa school. This process faithfully reproduces intricate artwork with remarkable precision while making the beauty of Maki-e more accessible for everyday use.The pen features a jointless aluminum body and cap, each formed by pressing a single sheet of aluminum into shape. This demanding manufacturing process produces a pen that is exceptionally lightweight, durable, and comfortable to hold, while providing an uninterrupted canvas for the artwork to extend seamlessly across the surface.

To preserve the vibrant artwork, each pen is finished with a clear Urushi lacquer coating, adding both protection and a subtle depth to the design. The result is a writing instrument that blends modern engineering with the timeless beauty of Japanese decorative arts.

STAINLESS STEEL NIB

The stainless steel nib of the Kuretake Monogatari Kindai Maki-e Fountain Pen is designed to provide a writing experience that is smooth, dependable, and easy to enjoy. Expertly crafted and precisely finished, it delivers a consistent flow of ink with excellent control, making it well suited for everyday writing, journaling, note-taking, and professional correspondence.

With its firm construction, the nib produces clean, well-defined lines while offering a stable and predictable writing feel. The polished iridium-tipped point glides comfortably across the page, providing a pleasant balance of smoothness and subtle feedback that inspires confidence with every stroke.

Designed to complement the pen's elegant Kindai Maki-e finish, the stainless steel nib emphasizes reliability and durability without compromising writing comfort. Its robust construction requires minimal maintenance and ensures dependable performance over years of regular use.

Whether admired for its beautiful Japanese artwork or enjoyed as a daily writer, the Kuretake Monogatari Kindai Maki-e's stainless steel nib offers the precision, consistency, and craftsmanship that perfectly complement this uniquely artistic writing instrument.
